End of Term Prize-Giving July 2012

All done and dusted on a three legged piano!!!!

Gale Force held their Annual Concert and Prize-Giving on a rare Summers Afternoon and whilst the event this year was planned on a very ‘low key’ note, as they make plans to celebrate their 25th Anniversary in 2013/2014, it was lovely to see so many of the students present and a packed Hall in St Johns on a very rare warm and sunny afternoon.

Mrs Wendy McDowell, a Vice President, and Musical Director for the afternoon was asked to play on a ‘3 legged’ piano as when it was carefully manoeuvred into the Hall from a side room it was discovered it had only 3 moving feet and some of the Dad’s (who had obviously been in the scouts when lads) found and secured two bricks to hold the instrument in place for the concert and a stirring rendition of the National Anthem!

As one of the mum’s was heard to say, ‘Only Mrs M would even agree to play on such a piano, she is so dedicated to our kids!’ and its true!!!

Mrs McDowell together with Seniors Richard Corlett and Olivia Christian, presented the prizes and Mrs Gale, Director, was able to announce that Richard was home after completing his first year in teacher training and allowed him to conduct the students in their winning songs in Manx Gaelic, with Olivia accompanying them beautifully on the flute, and announce Olivia had passed her International Baccalaureate exams with, well let Olivia explain herself:
‘The IB is basically an international version of A Levels. You take six subjects, each of which is marked out of 7, with 7 being roughly the same as an A* at A Level, a 6 being an A, etc. You then have the chance to earn up to three more points by doing essays on a variety of subjects. I got 42 points overall, with three sevens, three sixes, and all three bonus points, which is more than enough to get into Durham, so I'm very happy! ‘

It was a lovely afternoon and a great way to end yet another very successful year for this very special Theatre School.
