ESB RESULTS AUTUMN 2010
All the usual phrases were being quoted last week as the Annual Exams were due at the Gale Force Theatre School, ‘The show must go on!’ and we need to keep the Dunkirk spirit!’ and ‘Its not where you start its where you finish’! as the Adjudicator arrived from Liverpool after a 5 hour delay!!!!! Students who should have been starting their exams at 4pm found themselves beginning their talks at 7pm after long hours at school and the following day exams stretched from 9am till 2pm to accommodate the delays but the Theatre School, in the best traditions kept working and their efforts were rewarded with all students gaining Merits, 70%, Merit Plus, 80%, and there were 11 Distinctions, 90%.
These are really terrific results as the candidates were aged 4 years to 15 years old and one Adult Candidate, Tommy Gordon, and yet again Moira Pain and Torin Lakeman ‘raised the bar’ in examinations for Gale Force even higher by passing Advanced Certificates in Spoken English with 90% each with confidence and ability quite beyond their years.

ESB RESULTS AUTUMN 2009
Yet another ‘FIRST’ for Gale Force as the results of their recent English Speaking Board Examinations were received in mid-November 2009. For the very first time a Gale Force student attempted the very difficult and very complex SENIOR PROFICIENCY exam, usually undertaken in 6th Form or by Adult Students and TORIN LAKEMAN was awarded a DISTINCTION with over 90%. Torin has been a student with Mrs Barbara Gale for over 8 years when he attempted all Junior and Senior sections and has always passed with Distinction on all levels. Mrs Gale said she had her doubts that such a young student, Torin is 14, would be able to cope with all the disciplines required for this exam and be able to remember them and present them in such a professional manner. ‘Torin was determined that in this our 20th year he would be the first to attempt this Grade and Pass!! A Pass was all we wanted but Torin had other ideas and despite being a keen Rugby player and his love of Sailing, he has studied with dedication and thoroughness for the last 6 months and all his efforts have paid off to great acclaim by us all!! We are all VERY Proud of his achievements and for giving us another FIRST in our 20th year!’
Mrs Gale is also very pleased with all her other students whose results were:

The Sheffield Plate (known affectionately as the mini Cleveland had 4 representatives from Gale Force and it is the first time a teacher has had 4 soloists competing. Sadly the prize was not won by one of the 4 but Emily Coates who at 14 is a beautiful soloist and destined for great things in the future.
Two of our Adults also competed in this years Festival with: Alwyn Major gaining a Merit in the open Bible Reading and a Merit in the open Spoken Word. Then Jude Clague-Walsh had a Merit in the open Solo class, the open Bible Reading and Songs from the Musicals and a Distinction for the open Spoken Word. They were more nervous than the students.
Finally our “accompanist” in the Gaelic Choirs was our own Richard Corlett who played so beautifully and also participated in the Songs from the Musicals aged 14-18 gaining a well-deserved Merit.
Mrs Gale still suffering from the effects of a bad fall was unable to participate herself, although the voice was in fine form! She was able under medical supervision to attend as much of the children’s classes as possible and is extremely proud of them all. With 12 silver cups to our credit we are looking for volunteers to go on the cleaning rota!
Sincere thanks to Helen Corlett for agreeing to conduct the Choir at the very last minute, to Mrs Savage and Mrs Potter, Mrs Bowring and Mrs Balakrishna for all their help and assistance and to Wendy McDowell for her superb playing and coaching, a terrific week!
