Vice Presidents

Mrs Dorothy Cannon - May 2010.

It is with deep regret that Gale Force Theatre School has to announce the death of one of its Vice Presidents and one of their most staunch supporters, Mrs Dorothy Cannon.

Dot, as she was known to all family and friends won the coveted Cleveland Manx Gold Medal in 1977, ‘a true mezzo-soprano voice of exceptional quality’ was the remark made by Adjudicator Marjorie Thomas and Dot was indeed, a performer throughout the Island both at small village events and at the Villa Marina and the Gaiety Theatre where she took many of the major roles with the Douglas Choral Union including ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, ‘Die Fleidermaus’ and the ‘Mikado’ to great acclaim.

She was extremely proud of all the Members of the Gale Force and was a supporter of the Gale Force Seniors for many years too.

Her generosity and her wisdom were very much appreciated right up to this years Festival, 2010, when even though in Hospital and in terrible pain she was able to send her love and best wishes to all for a successful ‘Guild’. She will be very sadly missed by us all and we extend our love and support to her husband Matt and her children David and Lynn.

Mrs E Finnister - Patron Leeds Opera and Theatre - The Grand (d. 2007). We are very sorry to learn of the death of Evelyn. A very generous supporter to the Force, Evelyn always visited us whenever she was on the Island, at least once a year.
